இலண்டன் ரெட்டிங் பகுதியிலுள்ள எர்லி தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் சார்பாகக் குழந்தைகள் மற்றும் பெற்றோர்கள் இணைத்து ஒரு கதை சொல்லல் நிகழ்வு ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது. அருமையான அரங்கம், சரியான நேரத்தில் தொடக்கம், பெற்றோர்-குழந்தைகள் விளையாடும் அளவிற்கு இடம் என ஏற்பாடும் மிகவும் திருப்தியாக அமைந்தது. நிகழ்வினைத் தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்பு குழந்தைகள் மற்றும் பெற்றோர்களிடம் தாங்கள் சமீபத்தில் வாசித்த புத்தகங்களின் பெயர்களை எழுதி ஸ்டிக்கி நோட்ஸ் மூலம் ஒட்டுங்கள் என்று கூறியிருந்தேன். முதலில் சற்றே தயங்கினாலும், ஒரு தொடக்கம் கிடைத்தப் பிறகு குழந்தைகள் ஏகப்பட்ட புத்தகங்களை அறிமுகம் செய்தார்கள். அந்தப் பெயர்களை மட்டும் இங்கு பகிர்கிறேன்.
என்னைப் பொறுத்த வரை இது ஓர் ஆவணம், சமகாலத்தில் நம் தமிழ்ப் பிள்ளைகள் வாசிக்கும் ஆங்கிலப் புத்தகங்களின் பெயர்கள் இவை. இந்தப் பட்டியலில் 100 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பாக வெளியான புத்தகங்களும் உண்டு, சமகாலத்தில் வெளியான புத்தகங்களும் உண்டு. பல பகுதிகளாக வெளியாகும் புத்தகங்கள் அதிகம் இருந்தன. அதில் ஒவ்வொரு புத்தகமும் 150+ பக்கங்கள் கொண்டவை என்பதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
புலம்பெயர்ந்த நாட்டில் நம் தமிழ்ப் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு வாசிப்பு எப்படி இயல்பில் அமைகிறது, அவர்கள் எதை ரசிக்கிறார்கள் என்பதெல்லாம் குறித்து தனியே ஒரு பதிவு எழுத வேண்டும், தற்போதைக்குப் பட்டியலை மட்டும் பகிர்கிறேன்.
